An individual who already knows that they want to be a corporate attorney may want to major in business or economics. This will help them to get a better understanding of what they will be doing in their career as a corporate attorney. The next step after obtaining an undergraduate degree is to take the LSAT, also known as the Law School Admissions Test. A good grade on this test will help an individual get into a good law school. One should look for a law school that specializes in training corporate attorneys.

•In law school, finding and befriending other individuals who want to be corporate attorneys can be a good idea. Not only will an individual find friends with similar interest, they can also be used for networking in the future. In law school, there are certain core requirements that must be taken to fulfill the educational demands of getting a law degree. Unlike an undergraduate college, there are no majors in law school. However, there is also time when the law student can pick particular law classes to take. When one is able to choose those law classes, one who wants to be corporate attorneys should take any classes that they can find that relates to becoming a corporate attorney. These may include financial and business classes, especially classes involving real estate or tax related matters.

•Before taking and passing the bar exam, one should research different law firms to see which ones have corporate attorneys. There are two places a where a corporate attorney may try to find a job. A law firm is one of them. This law firm may specialize in providing corporate attorneys or they may be a general law firm that has many different types of lawyers working for them. A corporate attorney can also seek employment at a corporation. The corporate attorney would then be concentrating exclusively on that corporation. They would have no other clients and be in house counsel. Corporate attorneys may want to try both of these paths at some point. In fact, corporate attorneys often choose to work for corporations, since the salaries are usually higher and they will know exactly what type of corporate law they will be working with.

While the position of corporate attorney may not be as exciting other specializations, corporate attorneys almost never find themselves idle. Corporate attorneys should have a strong interest in business and financial matters since those are the issues that they will usually find themselves handling.
